EMSEAL® Expanding Foam Sealant

Seal out the Elements

Ensure a weather tight seal with Emseal®, a self-adhering, flexible foam sealant which expands to fill contours and gaps.

Use Emseal® to seal out dust, air, wind-driven snow and moisture through joint details in metal building and roofs.

Suitable for use against metal, plastic, wood, concrete and other common metal building structures.

This Emseal® expanding sealant is UV-stable and will not dry out and become hard or brittle. The Expanding Foam Sealant maintains a seal during thermal expansion and contraction of building panels.

The sealant has a self-adhesive on one side. After removal of packaging, the material begins gradual expansion.

Durable and versatile solution for difficult to seal areas.

  • UV stable
  • Will not dry out or become hard and brittle
  • Self-adhering
  • Highly resistant to bugs and vermin
  • Conforms to contours and fills gaps
  • Good thermal and sound insulator

Emseal® Installation

Emseal® is extremely easy to install, as the only tools you will need for the installation of Emseal® are utility knives, a tape measure, and a spray bottle filled with water. Follow these simple steps for the installation of your Emseal® sealant:

1. Pre-Install Prep:

  • Make sure joint faces are parallel and have enough depth to receive width of sealant
  • Clean application surface with lint-free rags and solvent to remove dust, grease, and oils
  • Dry application surface

2. Open Reel

  • Open the reel by cutting through colored marking tape
  • To prevent premature expansion, only open the amount of material you plan to use.

3. Square Off Ends

  • Use a sharp knife or shears to square off the Emseal® sealant tape ends at the start and finish of your sealing run.

4. Peel Off Liner

  • Peel off the white self-adhesive liner to expose the adhesive surface of the Emseal®

5. Adhere Tape to Surfaces

  • Press the self-adhesive side of the sealant against your application surface
  • Properly align your substrate with the Emseal® sealant tape and secure appropriately

6. Join Lengths With Miters

  • Making a continuous strip is done by joining continuous lengths of Emseal® by mitering the strips and pinching them together
  • Overlap two strips of Emseal ®, then cut, the result is two lengths of Emseal® that are to be joined together
  • Cut Emseal® tapes on a 45 degree angle
  • Align two mitered ends together, and pinch with fingers to join

Tip: Lightly wetting Emseal® will make it easier to cut

Important Storage Information:

Cold Weather Storage: Be sure to keep Emseal® off of the floor, and store it inside at room temperature. Emseal® will recover slower when cold.

Hot Weather Storage: Keep Emseal® out of direct sun, and avoid temperatures greater than 60 degrees Fahrenheit until immedietly prior to installing into the joint.

Important!: Emseal® reels must be flatly stored and handled with care during use to ensure the sealant does not expand prematurely and spiral out of the material.
